PETER BROCK'S GREATEST EVER BATHURST WIN!
1979 was the most dominant victory in the history of The Great Race when Brock took a clean sweep,
- Qualified on pole position
- Led every lap of the race
- Won the race by a huge 6 laps
- Broke the lap record on the last lap!

In the 1979 Bathurst Top 10 shoot-out, Brock set an amazing time of 2:20.5s, almost 2s quicker than 2nd place Morris. Moffat was controversially able to compete in the shoot-out, claiming the 4th quickest time.
On the morning of the race the road had become slippery from overnight rain. This suited Brock in the agile Torana, and by the first lap he was 3s ahead of second place. The outright pace of the Brock Torana was unstoppable, with his pace exaggerated by the number of cars in the outright class having mechanical trouble. The Brock/ Richards pairing won the race, beating home Janson/ Perkins by 6 laps. The racew was an outstanding result for Holden with the Torana taking out the first eight positions. The 1979 Bathurst would be the last time that both the Torana A9X and XC Falcon would compete in the Great Race.
