After moderate success racing as a privateer in 1976, there was interest in Peter Brock re-joining the Holden Dealer Team in 1977. It did not eventuate and again Brock raced as a privateer, but this time entered as Bill Patterson Racing. The 1977 season consisted of 11 rounds, of which, Brock raced 7 of those in the L34. Up against the very quick XB Falcons of Moffat and Bond, Brock was able to finish his L34 on the podium 5 times with 1 race win. Continuing the season in the newly developed A9X Brock finished the 1977 ATCC in third place.
