Australia’s Holden company merged with GM in the 1930s.The first Holden motorcar was unveiled in 1948 and became a best seller within three years. The sedan was followed in 1951 by the coupe utility. The first model change came in October 1953 with the face lifted FJ range. The Monaro won Bathurst in 1968 and it was this race that provided the impetus for the 4, 6 and 8-cylinder engines.Another major redesign came in 1960 with the FB series. The body was totally re-styled but the mechanical specifications were little changed but did have 3bhp more. An automatic gearbox, however, was not available until 1961.This is a book of contemporary road tests, specification and technical data, new model introductions, troubleshooting and driver’s impressions.Models covered include: FX, Convertible, Station Sedan, Ute, panel van, Tontala, Buchanan, FJ, FE, FC, Diesel, FB, Automatic.
